For at least a few
days and, if we are lucky, a few weeks we will get to have some degree of
normalcy at home. With surgery four
weeks out we have a chance to take a breath and go about life as close to
normal as possible. A few appointments
here and there but no further diagnoses looming in the air will enable us to
continue to digest all that has happened and will happen.
I got up at 4AM and
went to the gym at 5, got my twice weekly workout in before the day began. George was up and out the door for work as
usual. Nothing special happened at work,
just “normal” stuff. I even managed to
reschedule a few things from my calendar – things that had to be cancelled and
put off until things returned to something less chaotic and I could find the
spare time for them.
To maintain his
strength, George and I take a nightly stroll around the block. Unlike some of the blocks were I grew up that
could be quite large, ours is perhaps a half mile long. Today George walked it
at a pretty good clip, the best he has done thus far. His appetite has been good although he now
notices that he gets full pretty quickly.
That is due, in part, to the fact that he has masses of “jello” inside
his abdomen putting pressure of various internal organs.
All in all, today was
a good day. It was nice to have a
relatively quiet day to just be “normal”.
